Punk Sunbed
Last weekend was a veritable frenzy of 'card related activity, incorporating new excursions in debauchery, technical itches, sleep deprivation and gardening. Highlight of the weekend for me was undoubtedly deejaying hazily at an event held at The Static Gallery, home to the mighty Burn, among others. Appropriately enough the sonorous voice of the Lord kicked off this Good Friday event as Strcprstskrzkrk cajoled extracts of The Ten Commandments to dally with sinewaves and glitches - a beguiling stew! Next up Mcwatt and Milne's classical interpretations on piano and flute silenced a burgeoning crowd before -a+m's acoustic duelling upped the virtuosity stakes further. The latter reminded me of Dakota Oak Trio's underrated sketches and their upcoming Lancaster and Somerset release is definitely one to chase down. Finishing the night, Rob Testcard's Corporate Athlete improvisations around tight beatscapes show that a bill based on the broad church of experimentation needn't always dissolve into sonic mess. More please!
